Taking the TACHS Exam is an important step in the right direction for your son or daughter. The reality is, that any Catholic High School they select is going to provide them with quality education based on solid Catholic values. Several of our teachers offer TACHS review classes outside of school. When we asked them to provide us with a review that your child could conduct online, they were more than happy to provide us with the two sample tests in the left hand column. We would like to personally thank both Mrs. Kadu and Mrs. Lambert for putting these documents together.
Please note, that while these practice tests are a good source to use in preparation for the exam this Friday, they are not meant to substitute any other study mechanisms your child is currently using. In addition to the material, we would also like to answer some Frequently Asked Questions as they relate specifically to St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School:
1) Do you have to put Sea first in order to gain admission?
We reccommend putting us first, and here's why. Our school gives out the most scholarship money among Catholic High Schools on the Island. Therefore, those who put us first, have a better chance of not only getting accepted, but also receiving financial compensation. The other reason we reccommend putting Sea first is because we accept both boys and girls, and therefore need to balance our acceptance ratio for each. Schools that accept only boys or only girls are more liberal with accepting students that put them as second choice because it isn't neccessary for them to balance their freshman class the way we need to here at Sea.
2) Is it true that St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School has the lowest tuition?
Yes. We strive to keep our costs low, and are proud to say that we have the lowest tuition among Catholic High School's on Staten Island.
3) Do you consider students who do not do exceptionally well on the TACHS Exam, but do however demonstrate high marks in general in their current school?
We are aware that not all students are great test takers. Should a circumstance arise where a student does exhibit high grades throughout his/her elementary carreer, and for some reason does poorly on the TACHS, our door is open for conversation. Be advised that we will use report cards as well as the reccommendation of your child's current principal in our deliberation.
